Our Research

Our Findings

Over the last decade, we've learned quite a lot about how, when, and where people and coyotes interact in the Portland area. During that time, the community has reported over 17,000 sightings to our project. We've also learned how important it is to provide factual and practical information about living with coyotes.

A few key findings from our research:
  • People see coyotes pretty much everywhere in the metro area except the densest parts of downtown Portland.
  • People's attitudes toward, and interactions with, coyotes are more often neutral or positive than negative.
  • Learning more about coyotes often makes people feel more positively toward them.
  • Reported coyote sightings are a little more common at nighttime than daytime.

You can learn more about our research on our research page.
