Our Research
The Coyote Sightings Map
In addition to analyzing the sighting reports for research purposes, we post all community-reported sightings on our public sightings map. We post sightings no sooner than two weeks after they are reported, so if you just reported a sighting, expect it to appear on the map after two weeks (sometimes longer).
Take a moment to explore coyote sightings that have been reported to the Portland Urban Coyote Project. Find your neighborhood by searching, panning, and/or zooming.
The light blue dots are sightings that occurred during the day, while the darker blue dots are sightings that occurred during the night (gray dots are sightings in which the time of day was unclear). You can check and uncheck various years to see how sighting patterns have (or have not) changed over the years.
