Encountering Coyotes

You might be here because you just encountered a coyote for the first time, you encounter coyotes all the time, or you’ve simply heard there are coyotes in your area. In any case, this tutorial will teach you more about the coyotes that live among us.

Coyotes sightings in and around Portland were being reported by the 1980s and seem to have increased as the city has grown. Now, coyotes are regularly spotted across the Portland metropolitan area.

In short, seeing a coyote in the Portland metropolitan area (which includes Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill Counties in Oregon, and Clark and Skamania in Washington) is totally normal and is typically no cause for alarm.
