This is the second year of Coyote-palooza, a street fair style event next to the PSU Farmers Market (SW Park/ SW Montgomery)!

We can't wait to see everyone on Saturday, May 31st from 8:30am to 2pm!

Come down to Coyote-palooza to learn more about the resident coyotes of the Portland metro area, share your coyote stories, ask your coyote questions, and have some fun!
  • Pet and family friendly event, free
  • Crafts for kids (coyote crown, coloring)
  • Activities for everyone (hazing rattle with upcycled materials from SCRAP PDX)
  • Fill a passport as you visit booths and spin a wheel for prizes (stickers, shirts, totes, and a few grand prizes—binoculars and a catio)
  • Feel coyote fur, look at paw prints, look at and add to our sighting map, check out a full catio set up, learn to coyote-proof your chicken coop, learn about the cultural significance of coyotes
  • Chat with researchers, wildlife biologists, and other partners.

Whether you love coyotes, hate coyotes, or don’t really care, the advice is the same:
  • Never feed coyotes and remove potential food sources.
  • Protect pets. Keep pets indoors, on short leashes, and supervised.
  • Scare off bold coyotes. Make noise until the coyote leaves the area.
Share this message. This only works when the whole community works together to keep people, pets, and coyotes safe.

Coyotes Among Us: Secrets of the City’s Top Predator, A virtual presentation with Dr. Stan Gehrt

5/29/2025

Dr. Stan Gehrt is principal investigator of the largest, and longest, study of coyotes in the Chicago area, which has involved the monitoring of over 1,600 coyotes over a 25-year period. In this virtual presentation, he will discuss the things we have learned from these animals living among millions of people, such as how they move across the landscape while avoiding us, how they interact with each other, and how they function as predators in the urban ecosystem. Dr. Gehrt will also discuss the risks and the benefits of having a top predator within the city, and how our relationships with them may evolve into the future.
